Working with young people in the Security Industry

RST believe in youth and are rapidly becoming known as the Academy for Apprentices or ‘Security Cadets’ in the industry. Any major industry requires an influx of new and younger talent and just like the police and military we see the age group 16-18 as a key recruiting group for the future. Historically the Security Industry has not attracted nor offered the career path likely to interest the younger age group, preferring to attract fairly fixed stereotypes, many of which have entered the industry as a last or only resort. This is not and cannot be a positive situation.
New opportunities now exist in close protection, surveillance, transport, sporting events and training as well as management and supervisory positions. The time to interest potential applicants is within the earlier years (16-18) as they can legally operate from the upper age limit 18. At RST we run ‘Learner Responsive’ pre-employment courses offering industry knowledge, career advice and employability training as well as several accredited examinations including security, customer service, first aid and health & safety.
Learners can develop with us and for those who qualify and meet our standards we are supporting them through the examination and licensing process prior to introducing them to potential employers. RST work with a growing number of youth groups in London and are regular visitors to the Job Centre’s & Work Shops in Brixton, South London. We see a major opportunity to partner with the many disadvantaged and at times disaffected youth groups, to engage, educate and inspire youngsters to work in the industry and offer the training and employment support to achieve this. Through our organization ‘Spirit of Youth’ we hope to launch our first course for 16-18 year olds at the Clapham Park Project, Brixton in January 2012 and to develop interest and support in this venture from Employers, Sponsors, Businesses, Local Authorities and our centre of excellence at Lambeth College, Brixton Campus. <Book this course>
